WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 13th - JIMMY ALDRIDGE AND SID GOLDSMITH

 

Superb singers and fine multi-instrumentalists, 

Jimmy  Aldridge and Sid Goldsmith are a highly acclaimed folk  duo  who  play  traditional  and  original  music,  mainly  on guitar  and  banjo.  They  are  heavily  influenced  by  the  songs  of  East  Anglia,  where  they  both  grew  up,  but weave  traditional  English  folksong  with  Irish,  Scottish
and American  tunes,  as  well  as  their  own  compositions which draw on many different styles. Over the last three  years  they  have  built  a  reputation  on  the  folk  scene  for arresting  and  moving  performances,  bringing  songs  to life  with  sensitive  musical  arrangements  and  stunning vocals.

        WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 11th - THE DOVETAIL TRIO



The  Dovetail  Trio,  each  with  long-served  pedigrees  in English folk music, are Jamie Roberts (guitar and vocals) Rosie  Hood  (vocals)  and  Matt  Quinn  (concertina  and
vocals).  Between  them  they  have  created  a  highly distinctive style and sound, combining charismatic voices with  lyrical  guitar  playing  and  sensitive  concertina accompaniment.  The  trio  presents  thoughtful  and imaginative  arrangements  of  mostly  traditional  material
and perform with engaging charm.

    Dublin-born  Daoiri  (pronounced  Derry)  Farrell  has  been  taking  the  folk  world  by  storm  with  his  authentic  interpretations  of  Irish  songThis  exceptional  singer  and  bouzouki  player  was  a  double  winner  at
the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards this year. He scooped the prize for best traditional track as well as the Horizon award for best emerging artist on the folk scene.

        WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 13th - MAGPIE LANE



image4.jpegMagpie  Lane  is  a  five-piece  folk  band  from  Oxford, specialising  in  traditional  English  songs  and  tunes.  They combine powerful vocals with vigorous tunes, performing a  wide  selection  of  Christmas  carols,  wassails  and  dance tunes,  many  of  them  quite  unusual.  Between  them  the band  plays  concertina,  melodeon,  bouzouki,  cello,  fiddle and guitar and all of them sing; when they burst into five part harmony it is a joy to hear.
